The New Club Citation Award 2018
Citation in Honour of Mr. Wong Ah Woh (W45)
It is my great honour and privilege to present The New Club Citation Award 2018 to a truly
deserving member, Mr. Wong Ah Woh (W45), in recognition of his outstanding dedication and
invaluable contributions to The New Club over many decades.
Mr. Wong has been a loyal member of The New Club since 27th June 1978. Throughout his years of
membership, he has exemplified the true spirit of volunteerism, devoting countless hours to enriching
the Club's activities and fostering greater participation among members and their families.
Among his many contributions, Mr. Wong has been especially active in the Library Section, where
he played a pivotal role in making the Club a place of learning, creativity and family togetherness.
Recognising the importance of engaging the younger generation, he organised numerous educational
and recreational programmes for members children. These included drawing competitions, English
reading contests, traditional childhood indoor and outdoor games, summer camps, and many other
enjoyable activities that created lasting memories for countless families.
Beyond organising events, Mr. Wong also lent his talents to the publication of the Club's quarterly
newsletter. Working closely with the editor, he contributed his time and effort to ensure that members
remained informed and connected with the happenings of the Club. His commitment to preserving the
Clubs history and documenting its activities has become an important part of our collective heritage.
His passion for photography also proved invaluable during the development of the Club's website.
When the Club required quality photographs of its premises and facilities, Mr. Wong willingly stepped
forward to organise a photography competition, encouraging members to showcase the beauty and
character of The New Club. The collection of photographs not only enhanced the Club's online
presence but also reflected the pride our members have in their Club.
Mr. Wong is also affectionately known among members as a keen Tombola enthusiast. At a time
when the Tombola Section had become inactive due to declining interest, he took it upon himself to
revive the game. Understanding that every successful session required a dedicated caller, he
volunteered to assume that role week after week so that fellow members could simply relax and enjoy
the fellowship that the game offered.
His efforts did not stop there. When he realised that many members were hesitant to participate
because they were unfamiliar with the game, he organised a special fun Tombola session in the Club
Hall to introduce newcomers to the game in a relaxed and friendly environment. Through his
enthusiasm, patience and encouragement, he successfully rekindled members interest and breathed
new life into one of the Club's cherished social activities.
Mr. Wong's willingness to serve quietly behind the scenes, his creativity in organising meaningful
activities, and his unwavering commitment to promoting fellowship have enriched the lives of
countless members over the years. His contributions demonstrate that the strength of a club lies not
only in its facilities, but in the dedication of members who willingly give their time and talents for the
benefit of others.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude that we honour Mr.
Wong Ah Woh with The New Club Citation Award 2018. Please join me in congratulating an
exceptional member whose selfless service, unwavering dedication and enduring commitment have
made a lasting impact on The New Club and its members.
