It gives me immense pleasure to honour Mr. Yeoh Hoe Thiam (Y40), who has been a member since 19 th July 1980, a most deserving recipient of The New Club Citation Award 2026. For more than two decades, he has served The New Club with remarkable passion and selflessness across multiple sporting disciplines and in various leadership roles. His journey of service began in tennis, where he served as Tennis Captain from 1999 to 2003 under the chairmanship of the late Mr. Ooi Chong Gin. His enthusiasm and leadership helped strengthen the tennis fraternity and encouraged greater participation among members. Recognising his capability and dedication, he was once again entrusted with the role of Tennis Captain from 2005 to 2007 under Mr. Teh Thian Lai, and subsequently from 2009 to 2013 under Mr. Tan Vooi Gin. Being repeatedly appointed over different administrations speaks volumes of the confidence and trust placed in him by successive General Committees and fellow members. In 2013, Mr. Yeoh took on a new challenge by leading another sporting section as Squash Captain. He served with distinction from 2013 to 2017 under Mr. Tan Vooi Gin, from 2017 to 2019 under Mr. Tan Lay Chuan, and from 2019 to 2021 under Dato Balraaj Singh. During these years, he worked tirelessly to promote the game, organise competitions and cultivate a vibrant sporting spirit among our members. Beyond the racquet sports, Mr. Yeoh has also been a pillar of our swimming fraternity during his younger days. He has volunteered countless hours in organising and assisting with numerous Swimming Gala events, ensuring their success year after year. As the Club's Swimming and Life-Saving Instructor, he has generously shared his expertise, teaching generations of members not only to swim but also the invaluable skills of water safety and lifesaving. His contributions have undoubtedly made our Club a safer and more vibrant sporting community. However, Mr. Yeoh's contributions extend far beyond sports. Many members may not realise that he was the talented member who designed The New Club's official logo. His winning design was selected as the Club's emblem and continues to represent our identity to this very day. Every time we see our Club crest displayed proudly on our building, publications, banners, uniforms and memorabilia, we are reminded of his creativity and the lasting legacy he has gifted to The New Club. It is a contribution that will continue to inspire generations of members for many years to come. Today, his dedication to the Club continues in another important capacity as a respected member of the Club's Disciplinary Board. In this role, he brings fairness, integrity and sound judgement in safeguarding the values, harmony and reputation of our Club. Looking at his remarkable record of service, one cannot help but admire a member who has never sought recognition, but instead has quietly and consistently given his very best whenever called upon. Whether as a sports captain, instructor, organiser, designer, mentor or committee member, Mr. Yeoh has always placed the interests of the Club above his own. His story reminds us that the true strength of a club is built not merely by its facilities or traditions, but by members who willingly dedicate their time, talent and passion for the benefit of others. Mr. Yeoh Hoe Thiam is undoubtedly one of those exceptional individuals. On behalf of the General Committee and every member of The New Club, Taiping, we extend our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Yeoh for his outstanding contributions and exemplary service over the years.
