We pause to remember and honour a gentleman whose contributions extended far beyond the walls of our
Club—a man whose life's work touched countless young athletes and whose legacy continues to inspire us all.
It is with great respect and deep gratitude that we posthumously confer The New Club Citation Award 2026
upon the late Mr. Patrick Morton, PPN, PJK (P85).
Mr. Patrick Morton became a member of The New Club on 25th April 2008. Professionally, he served as a
respected surveyor until his retirement in 2011. Yet, it was his extraordinary passion for volleyball that earned him
recognition throughout the country.
Widely regarded as one of Malaysia's most accomplished volleyball coaches, Mr. Patrick dedicated his life to
developing the sport at every level. From coaching school teams to district, state and eventually national squads,
he devoted countless years to nurturing young talent, instilling discipline, teamwork and the pursuit of excellence.
His influence extended far beyond victories on the court. Through his guidance and mentorship, he shaped
generations of players, many of whom went on to achieve success while carrying forward the values he so
passionately taught.
Within The New Club, Mr. Patrick was equally generous with his time and expertise. As Secretary of the Gym
Section, he played a pivotal role in transforming our gymnasium into the modern and well-equipped facility that
members enjoy today. His vision, dedication and perseverance were instrumental in introducing many of the
exercise machines and fitness equipment that have significantly enhanced the quality of our gym. It is no
exaggeration to say that our gymnasium would not be where it is today without his invaluable contributions.
Beyond developing the Club's facilities, Mr. Patrick was a mentor to many. His approachable personality and
willingness to help made him a trusted friend to members of all ages. Many sought his advice on fitness,
rehabilitation and injury recovery, knowing they could rely on his experience to recommend the appropriate
exercises to aid faster healing and safe recovery.
His passion for nurturing others extended well beyond the gym. He voluntarily dedicated his time to training
young swimmers in preparation for competitions, encouraging them to strive for excellence while building their
confidence and discipline. He also organised special fitness and conditioning sessions several days a week for
lady members, helping them improve their health, strength and overall well-being. He never sought recognition
for these efforts; his greatest reward was seeing others grow stronger, healthier and more confident.
Although volleyball was his first love, Mr. Patrick believed that every member deserved the opportunity to lead a
healthy and active lifestyle. His willingness to share his knowledge, mentor others and improve the Club's
sporting facilities reflected his unwavering commitment to serving the membership.
Although Mr. Patrick is no longer with us, his legacy lives on—in every athlete he coached, every member he
mentored, every swimmer he encouraged, and every person whose life he enriched through his kindness and
generosity. His legacy is also reflected in the modern gymnasium that continues to benefit our members every
day, standing as a lasting testament to his vision and dedication.
The New Club Citation Award is presented not only in recognition of what he accomplished, but also in
appreciation of the values he represented: humility, compassion, dedication, excellence and selfless service.
To his family, we extend our deepest gratitude for sharing him with our Club and with the wider sporting
community. We hope this award serves as a lasting reminder that his contributions have left an enduring legacy
that will never be forgotten.
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I now invite his wife to receive this award and to join me in paying tribute to the late
Mr. Patrick Morton, PPN, PJK, a truly distinguished gentleman and a most deserving posthumous recipient of
The New Club Citation Award 2026.
May his memory continue to inspire us, and may his legacy live on in every member who walks into our
gymnasium, steps onto our courts, or embraces the spirit of service that he so faithfully exemplified.
