The New Club Citation Award 2018 Citation in Honour of Mr. Ling Peng Tong (L11) It is my great honour and privilege to present The New Club Citation Award 2018 to a truly deserving member, Mr. Ling Peng Tong (L11), in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the growth and development of The New Club. Mr. Ling has been a dedicated member of our Club since 27th June 1991. Throughout his years of membership, he has served with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and an exceptional sense of responsibility. His leadership was evident during his tenure as Honorary Secretary for two consecutive terms, from 1999 to 2001 and 2001 to 2003. During these years, he played a significant role in the administration of the Club and helped steer it through one of the most important chapters in its history. However, perhaps his greatest contribution came much earlier, when he was appointed to the Building Committee in 1994 during the Club's major redevelopment and renovation project. It was a challenging period for The New Club. Members had to endure the temporary closure of many of the Club's facilities, and even the Annual General Meeting had to be held at a rented venue because our premises were undergoing extensive reconstruction. As Secretary of the Building Committee, Mr. Ling became the driving force behind the successful execution of this ambitious project. Drawing upon his expertise as an engineer, he ensured that every stage of the construction was carefully monitored and professionally managed. His meticulous attention to detail and his uncompromising, "no-nonsense" approach earned the respect of everyone involved. He could often be seen tirelessly moving between the construction site, engineers's offices, architects's meetings, and municipal departments. Week after week, he attended progress meetings, coordinated with consultants and contractors, secured the necessary approvals from the local authorities, and resolved issues promptly to prevent costly delays. His determination to keep the project on schedule was instrumental in ensuring that members could return to a modern, improved Club as soon as possible. Many of the facilities that our members continue to enjoy today stand as lasting reminders of his dedication, foresight, and hard work. While the buildings themselves may speak of bricks and mortar, they also tell the story of a man whose commitment helped shape the Club we proudly call home today. Mr. Ling's quiet dedication, professional integrity, and willingness to shoulder immense responsibilities without seeking recognition exemplify the very spirit of service that The New Club strives to uphold. His contributions have left a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit generations of members. Regrettably, Mr. Ling is unable to be with us this evening due to ill health. Although we deeply miss his presence, our thoughts and prayers are with him. We sincerely wish him a swift and complete recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to The New Club, where he has devoted so much of his time and expertise.
