FOUR HOURS OF ZERO-FREE SMARTPHONES!
On, 3rd April 2016, a troop of 37 young ones, children of The New Club members marched into the Taiping Civil Defence Department Training Centre in Simpang to participate in a Day Camp.
To start off the Day Camp, the children did some stretching exercises. Then they were divided into two groups namely the kids and the teenagers.
The kids got their hands dirty in preparation to cook. They boiled eggs and prepared chocolate drinks. After a short break, they were taught how to help in medical emergencies and to escape from a burning building. And they were also taught the all-important knowledge- how to make a 999 call and ask for help.
On the other hand, the teenagers were challenged physically in an obstacle course. They climbed, swung, crawled and ran. After a short tea-break, they were taught several techniques in transferring the injured. Then, came the fun part- NORMAL RAPPELLING. The teenagers were briefed of the safety precautions in taking part in this high-risk activity. After being properly attired, they rappelled boldly. Kudos to the boys and girls.
To end the Day Camp, the Civil Defence showed the participants on how to react when they accidentally meet a snake. They even demonstrated how they would capture a snake.
In short, the camp was a success by the look of their childrens’ faces.
The committee would like to thank the Taiping Civil Defence for making this camp a success. A big thank you to the General Committee for looking into the expenses which included the transport, food and insurance.
