Children’s English Reading Contest 2016

The New Club Taiping Bulletin and Library Section organized a Children’s English Reading Contest for members’ children. This was the first time a contest of this nature was attempted and it was a resounding success. It was held on 10^th July 2016 from 9.00 a.m. to  10.45 a.m.

The children were categorized into group A, B and C. In group A, the children were from ages 5 – 8 years old, in Group B, the children from ages 9 – 12 years old and group c, the children from ages 13 – 17 years old. A total of 23 children took part in the contest. Cash prizes and trophies were given to first , second and third place winners. All participants were given a certificate of participation.

The judges for the contest were Mr. Martin Fairbairn (chief judge), Ms. Sharon Ng Kooi Kin and Ms. Sarojini A/P Sivagurunathan. The contest went on without a hitch. At the end of the contest the children were given refreshment.

The winners for the categories were as follow,

Group A:

1^st place – Ramanathan Annamalai – age 8 years old

2^nd place – Hashini – age 6 years old

3^rd  place – Sophia Gwen Kaur Thino – age 6 years old

Group B:

1^st place – Keith Damian Singh Thino – age 12 years old

2^nd place – Vindhya –  10 years old

3^rd place – Prissha – 11 years old

Group C:

1^st place – Laekhan Avaneesh Raj – age 13 years old

2^nd place – Arunambigai – age 16 years old

3^rd place – Shu Jo Lin – age 16 years old

The President of New Club Taiping, Mr. Tang Yuet Mun, gave away the prizes and certificates of appreciation to the judges.
